0:08 From Unfinished Basement to Finished Living Space
Hey, this is Brian with Good Guy Home Improvements. I'm in a basement in Beavercreek that we finished up a couple of months ago. I wanted to come back around, do a walkthrough, and talk about everything that we did.
This was an unfinished basement with a concrete slab and concrete walls. The customer had a vision for the open ceiling and knew the color tones they wanted. We helped bring it to life.
0:40 Living Area for Gaming and Movies
I'll start with the main area, which is the living space, with a massive TV. They wanted to set it up for gaming, TV shows, and movies. The customers say they spend a lot of time down here, which I don't blame them for.
0:49 Dry Bar with Cabinet Storage
I'll take you over here to a dry bar. We've talked about the kinds of bars we put in basements: simple, complex, more extravagant, wet bars, and dry bars. This is a dry bar with some pretty good length to it. I think it's about 10 feet.
1:14 Working Around an Existing Window
One thing we ran into here was that this window, which was already installed by the builder, was a little bit low. We had to miter the back edge to slope down to the window because the cabinets and countertops are standard sizes. It's a little detail we had to work through.
1:37 Storage and Dining Space
For a dry bar, this is a simple but really effective area to have, with a lot of storage. I think they're going to put a mini fridge down there.
This is a wide-open space with a lot of potential. There's a little seating area for dining, or whatever they want to do down here—maybe some drinks back here.
2:08 Full Bathroom and Tub Surround
We did a full bathroom. This was already roughed in. Typically, when the bathroom is already roughed in, if the location makes sense, we leave it there. That's going to be the most cost-effective option.
We'll try to fit the biggest size we can. I think this was 42 inches. We can do showers or tubs, and go simple or use full tile. For this one, the customer wanted a tub, so we did a tub with full-piece shower walls. They've got a marble look and a niche.
The customer was able to pick out all her own materials. This is what she decided to go with, and it looks really good. All the colors work together. I love the floor.
3:05 Bedroom with an Existing Egress Window
We were able to do a bedroom in here. Bedrooms add value and provide a place to sleep. To make this space a bedroom, it needed this egress window.
This window was already installed. If there's already a window installed, we'll try to put the bedroom in that location for cost reasons, as long as the window meets code. This one does, with the height and clearance it needs. There's also a closet in here, with shelving or a rod.
3:53 Nine-Foot Ceilings and Painted Open Ceiling
These are nine-foot ceilings, so the space feels big and open. The sprayed ceiling is something the customer wanted. As I've mentioned before, it can be an aesthetic choice, which looks really good through here, or a cost-saving choice.
4:11 Finished Storage Under the Stairs
Over here, we have the storage area. This is something we like doing, especially when there's space underneath the steps.
We were able to finish this area, and it goes back and around. There's a lot of storage, instead of leaving it framed up and looking unfinished. This is something I'd recommend doing. It does cost a little bit of money, but you get good storage.
4:44 Finished Layout and Free Estimates
These are the steps going up. For the size of the basement and the layout, I think it came out really good. We do have more unfinished space back there.

A City Rich in History
Beavercreek’s history stretches back to the early 1800s, when settlers were drawn to the fertile farmland and the flowing Beaver Creek, which gave the community its name. For generations, it remained a rural township before officially incorporating as a city in 1980. Today, it is one of Dayton’s largest suburbs, known for its strong schools and thriving neighborhoods. Among its oldest landmarks is the Philip Harshman House (1817), a stone home built by one of the area’s early settlers and now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This preserved structure stands as a reminder of Beavercreek’s agricultural and pioneer past, even as the city continues to grow and modernize.
Historical Highlights:
- Named for Beaver Creek, settled in the early 1800s
- Incorporated as a city in 1980, now one of Dayton’s largest suburbs
