A City Rich in History
Englewood’s story began in 1800–1801 when settlers from North Carolina and Pennsylvania arrived in what became Randolph Township. Officially founded on May 6, 1841 as Harrisburg, the town was renamed Iamton in 1870 after postmaster Harvey Iams. Later nicknamed “Jamton,” residents held a contest in 1898, choosing Englewood—a name finalized in 1899. The community incorporated as a village in 1914 and steadily grew into the city it is today. Englewood is also home to the Englewood Dam, built after the devastating 1913 flood, and sits along the scenic Stillwater River, making it a city shaped by both history and nature.
