Discover Mason
A City Rich in History
Mason was founded in 1815 when Revolutionary War veteran William Mason donated land for the town’s development. Originally called “Palmira,” the settlement changed its name to Mason in 1835. The city grew steadily as part of Warren County, eventually incorporating in 1971. Mason’s most famous landmark is the Alverta Green Museum, housed in a restored 1890s home that preserves the city’s heritage through artifacts and exhibits. Another highlight is the Mason Historical District, where preserved 19th-century buildings reflect its early growth. Today, Mason is also known for Kings Island Amusement Park, one of the Midwest’s largest attractions, which opened in 1972 and has become part of the city’s identity.
