Springboro was founded in 1815 by Jonathan Wright, a Quaker from Pennsylvania, who laid out the town in what was then Clear Creek Township. Because of its strong Quaker roots, Springboro became one of the most active Underground Railroad communities in Ohio, with dozens of safe houses still standing today. Many of these homes are preserved in the Springboro Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Other landmarks include Wright House, built by the town’s founder, and Jonathan Wright’s Friends Meetinghouse, reflecting its Quaker heritage.
