A City Rich in History
Troy was founded in 1808 as the seat of Miami County, quickly growing along the banks of the Great Miami River. Its location made it a hub for agriculture and trade, later strengthened by the Miami-Erie Canal, which connected Troy to markets across Ohio. The city is known for its beautiful Courthouse Square, anchored by the historic Miami County Courthouse (1888), an iconic example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. Another landmark is the Overfield Tavern (1808), one of the oldest surviving taverns in the state and now a museum showcasing pioneer life. Today, Troy honors its canal and pioneer past while thriving as a center for culture, business, and community life.
