Discover Waynesville
A City Rich in History
Founded in 1797 by Samuel Heighway, Waynesville was named in honor of General “Mad” Anthony Wayne, a Revolutionary War hero. The village quickly grew as a Quaker settlement and became known for its charm and small-town character. Today, Waynesville is widely recognized as the “Antiques Capital of the Midwest,” drawing visitors from across the region with its historic shops and annual Sauerkraut Festival. Historic landmarks still stand as reminders of its past, including the Friendship Farmhouse (c. 1800s) and the Museum at the Friends Home (1905), which preserves Quaker history in the region. The town’s walkable streets, historic architecture, and cultural traditions continue to make it a unique part of Warren County’s heritage.
