A City Rich in History
West Chester Township was officially established in 1823, carved out of Liberty Township, and originally named Union Township. For nearly 175 years, it carried that name before being renamed West Chester in 2000 to avoid confusion with the many other Union Townships in Ohio. The area began as farmland but grew rapidly during the late 20th century as suburban development expanded north from Cincinnati. Today, West Chester is one of Ohio’s largest townships, blending neighborhoods, commerce, and green spaces. Landmarks like Keehner Park and the Voice of America MetroPark highlight its natural beauty and recreational opportunities, while the community remains a vibrant hub within the Cincinnati-Dayton corridor.
