Discover Xenia
A City Rich in History
Founded in 1803, the same year Ohio became a state, Xenia takes its name from the Greek word for “hospitality.” Early Quaker settlers and pioneers built the community on principles of faith and resilience. Xenia became the county seat of Greene County and grew as a center of trade and education. The city is home to the Greene County Courthouse (1902), a Beaux-Arts style landmark, and the Alexander Conner House (c.1816), one of the oldest surviving structures in the region. Xenia is also remembered for the devastating 1974 tornado, one of the strongest in U.S. history, after which the community rebuilt with determination. Today, Xenia continues to honor its heritage while moving forward.
